During the 1960s a glider airfield was built in Hemavan. This airfield was well used of both locals and other flying clubs. This small glider airfield has developed to todays airport with a capacity of up to 72 seater passanger planes, Hercules military planes and many other types of users. the runway is today 1500 metres long and is equiped with ILS.
In the autumn of 1993 Hemavans airport was completed, and with all permits in place we were able to start our first charter line Bodö (Norway) - Hemavan - Umeå in March 1994. With flights Thursdays and Sundays, and continued the winter. The airline Wideröh continued to operate the line even the following year.
In 1997 Skyways began to operate the line Hemavan - Arlanda. In autumn 2008 the line was operated by NextJet, which ran until May 2018. The current operator is Amapola.
The airport has traffic 6 days a week - year round !!
